OCRF’s Proposal Development Workshop

July 1, 2013

On June 23-25, Prof. Michael Wysession (Washington University) visited KAUST to offer a proposal development workshop and one-on-one mentoring.  Prof. Wysession is a well-published and active researcher in the field of geophysics, who has developed a passion for assisting early career investigators succeed in challenging academic careers. In addition, he is one of the lead PIs of a successful National Science Foundation (NSF) program called "On the Cutting Edge"

Prof. Wysession offered two workshop sessions during his visit, one geared toward Faculty and another for Post-Docs and Research Scientists. The workshops focused on writing competitive proposals, but also included guidance on the elements needed to set up a successful research program (e.g., developing collaborations, building facilities, supervising/mentoring graduate students), set in the context of holistic challenges faced by early career scientists. Faculty also had the opportunity to take advantage of Prof. Wysession’s expertise in one-on-one mentoring sessions.
