Scientific Advisory Boards
KAUST’s mission is to advance science and technology
through bold and collaborative research, educate future scientific and
technological leaders, catalyze the diversification of the Saudi economy and
address challenges of regional and global significance, thereby serving the
Kingdom, the region and the world. KAUST has developed four primary strategic
research thrusts to support and drive KAUST’s research agenda, namely Energy,
Environment, Food, and Water. To support these thrusts, KAUST has established
goal-driven Research Centers selected for both their importance in advancing
fundamental knowledge in science and engineering and for their potential to
make a strong contribution to the Economic Development of Saudi Arabia.
Research Centers are the primary research units at KAUST. The Centers are
strategic and focus on topical areas that drive research projects toward
achieving their goals, i.e. economic impact and top quality science. The
Research Centers are supported by i) independent Scientific Advisory Boards appointed
by the KAUST President as part of the Quality Assurance and Strategic Planning
of the University and ii) through internal annual reviews. The IA team evaluates
the scientific output and ensures the smooth running of these events for each
The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) panel consist of
4-6 external experts that review and discuss the Research Center’s activities.
An SAB occurs every two years.
